I have a very easy question. My beloved father in law decided to cut the thermostat cable while remodeling. The problem is that it's 90 in Chicago right now, and since this is a second floor apartment, and the furnace is in the basement I don't have the time to fish another cable to the furnace until early next week. Anyway, what I need to know is which wires do I need to jumper in order to get the AC running. I can do that at the furnace directly, or use the piece of thermostat cable that fell in the basement.
Also, this thermostat cable was ran through the heating duct. Is that an acceptable practice? I'll run the replacement through the wall anyway, probably through a piece of EMT.

Connect green (G) and yellow (Y) together along with red (R) so that both the fan and compressor come on at the sam time, and get that wire out of the damn ductwork!
