I want to build a breezeway deck between my home and garage. I want to use treated lumber for the foundation and stringers and I want to use untreated for the floor joists and subfloor. I have enough elevation to do this as steps will be involved. My question is this. How high does untreated lumber need to be off the ground so it doesn't rot?

as long as the lumber is not in contact with soil moisture concrete it will be fine. That is what the grading .25 .40 .60 is.. approved for ground contact concrete etc. honestly its just smart to use .60 anytime you need PT lumber but its not available at "lowes" unless you special order. Good lumberyard is not lowes for sure. Hope this helps--Josh
