Got another question, when using primer, how is suppose to look when the wall is completed. I used a brush for the edges and a roller to apply. My understanding is that you don't need to worry about direction of application or lap lines. When I look at my wall after its dry - I worry that the application of this primer will show through the good paint. Will it or have I applied the primer incorrectly? Please let me know.

Thanks Barb:)

You shouldn't have too many lap marks unless you over-rolled the primer and didn't apply enough product, or it's a deep color primer. I assume you applied it like paint (vertical rolling). You should be fine after two topcoats then.

When I look at the wall, yes you can see lap lines, in some places it is quite transparent. I am covering a medium beige color with a white primer covering. The walls look discusting, yes I painted vertically but like I said the lap lines are quite visibal. The fellow at Home Depot said not to worry about the way it is applied, once completed let it cure for 3 - 4 days and then apply paint. I hope this is okay as I am really getting plenty tired of hearing different stories.

Thanks for your advice.

Well Barb....I'd apply a second coat of your primer until the wall looks fairly opaque and white...sounds like not enough product on the wall itself...use a 1/2 inch nap sleeve....let dry overnight and go to your painting....then your two topcoats. You'll be fine soon enough, not to worry. :)

To Keith P,

Just me again, I was in Home Depot today and now I am very confused. I wanted to sand my walls and then start painting with the color of my choice. They told me I needed to wait another 2 days before sanding. Seems this project is certainly taking its time. Anyways can you tell me how you tell people to use primer and how to apply it to the wall. I am truly unsure if what I have done is correct. Looking for reassurance on what I've done so far. Await you response. Thanks again,

Barb

Apply primer as you would your topcoat, cut in and roll. Many primers don't have as much titanium dioxide as paints and aren't as opaque or white. So after priming, it'll never look nearly as nice as your finished job. Not to worry Barb, sounds ok so far. Just leave it as long as they told you, then lightly sand if necessary, remove the dust and start your topcoat. :D
