I have been working on the design of my deck and I keep finding conflicting tables for sizing the beam, joists, posts and cantilever.
What is the best source for these tables? I really don't want to have to purchase the BOCA code book for this one project. Can someone direct me to the best place for these tables??

Thanks

If you are having this structure inspected by a local building inspector hes the "book" id ask. Its not uncommon for building inspectors to change sizing of dimensional lumber framing on plans so Id ask in advance to be safe. Personally most span tables are ridiculously complex if you look at them. As they take into account compressive fiber strength of various species of woods and such.but id say 99% percent of decks being built today are using PT ( pressure treated pine) for the structural members. Hope this Helps.--Josh

PS its always better to err on the side of overdoing it

Thanks.

My Inspector pretty much told me I could purchase the bokk from them. He has not been very friendly.

Try the library. A lot of inspectors will frown on a DIY structural design. You don't need an engineer, but they would rather see an experienced deck builder or standard plan. However, if it meets code, they cannot reject it no matter who designed it.
