I recently purchased a 1920's solid oak tressle table that was painted green. I have stripped and sanded it and now I would like to apply a light stain and polyurethane to it. It will be used alot so is there some sort of priming I should do prior to stain and poly? Also, is there a better polyurethane out there that is better for constant wet clean up?

The most durable finish I know of (clear) is Rock Hard varnish. It's not a poly, but a specialized standard varnish originally designed for bar tops.

No other material is needed as a primer.
