Hi,
I have a radio I figure it is made in the early 1980's it is a Lloyd's AM/FM/Stereo/Cassett/8-Track Recorder. Its a real cool stereo but when I turn it on the light that lights up the numbers for the turner dose not come on, and when I turn up the radio I have to push in the knob so that it won't crackle and it only comes from one or two speakers. How do I get this fixed so it won't do that? And yes the 8-Track dose work. lol Thank you very much Matthew A. Brandt

Well if you have some electronics experience and or some good common mechanical sense you can fix this. The back light is out and the volume control is dirty. Go to Radio Shack [or an electronics supply house] and get catalog number 640-4315 cleaner. Disconnect speakers, power etc. Disassemble until you gain access to the volume, Bal etc controls. Usually thru the bottom. There will be a small slot in the side of the potentiometers where the wires connect to a pad. Spray into this slot while gently turning the vol/bal/tone(s) for a second or two/three. Using a QTip spray the tip and use the QTip on the head(s) of the 8 track, jeez I can’t believe I just said “8 Track”… Anyway clean the heads of the deck and with a small soft paint brush or Cat.#: 64-4350 or go to Wally World and get a can of air and blow out the unit. This is good for the computer also.
The light bulbs are going to be a bit different. You will need to disassemble the front of the unit down to where the lights are. You’ll need a 40 watt soldering iron, 60/40 solder and of course once the bulbs are out you will need to ID them and find them. Shouldn’t be too big a deal. If you have a way of taking a few pictures of this and send them to my address listed here I should be able to tell you what to do.

30 should work OK. What happened to the USB? Tell me more and we'll see if one of us can fix it...
