I have some quarter sawn oak chairs that I am stripping. Looks like there was only one layer of white paint. I am having a VERY tough time getting the white paint out of the oak grain. I am using JASCO and waiting the 5-15 minutes. I have already tried using a plastic(?) stripping brush. Regular steel wool doesn't help. Any suggestions would be VERY appreciated.

My sympathies - I've been there.

What works for me is a brass bristle brush and a dental pick. It's time consuming and tedious, but on quarter sawn oak the results will be worth the effort.
