How can I remove wallpaper paste in preparation for painting without using chemicals?

I am sorry to say, but you must use chemicals to remove the old wallpaper paste. It is imperative that you do remove all the old adhesive or your finish coat will "fish eye" all over the place because the paint will shun all areas where the adhesive is present.

The chemical you need is dihydrogen monoxide. Also known as H2O. :D :p

Water and a scrubbing pad should take off all the paste. To tell if all the paste is off, wet the wall and feel with your hand. Slimy areas indicate adhesive that is still behind. Visit my website, under wallpaper stripping, it provide additional details.
