This set started giving white horizontal lines at the top of the picture. They would dissapear as the set warmed up. They kept getting farther and farther down the picture as time went on.(three months) One day the picture would not come on, all we got was a horizontal line. I know its a vertical problem, but I don't have any schematics or any experience working on TV's, my area is audio, fax machines, printers, and copiers. Although a lot of my friends would love for me to be proficient in TV's. Dont have time. Getting to the point, do you guys have any easy fixes or should I take it to a Pro. Thanks for any replies, Glenn

Good Morning:
First, if you want a service manual on the set, it is available here:
http://www.treasurechestcorp.com/Panas.Quasar.Tech.sm.TV2.html
That will help you with the inner workings of the set.
As for your problem, yes, you have a condition known as Vertical Collapse. This indicates that the either the vertical oscillator or the vertical driver has failed on this set. Since you were seeing the "Vertical Retrace Lines" in the picture just prior to failure, the best place to check is the Vertical Driver. This would tend to make me believe a capacitor is involved in the failure. A leaking capacitor will drive the Vertical Driver to saturation (hence retrace lines) and ultimately cause the driver to fail.
A good site to use for troubleshooting your problems can be found at http://an.hitchcock.org/repairfaq/REPAIR/F_tvfaq.html
paying attention to Section 23-Deflection Problems.
If you need parts, I recommend you talk to the folks at Union Electronics on their 800 number. You can find them at
