Put a hot casserole on top of a placemat which left a waffel design on the table. How do I get rid of it?

Depending on the depth of the impressions, you may be able to rememdy this yourself. I'm assuming that no cloth fibers were transferred to the surface.

First, dampen a brush with lacquer thinner and lightly brush the affected area. Go slowly, with a damp brush (not wet) and see if you can't level the surface some wiht this method.

Don't brush hard or long - you're trying for as little effect as possible.

If you do manage to move the finish around to a more level position, let it dry completely (overnight). Sand with 600 grit wet/dry paper lubricated with water to level out the remaining high spots. Use an aerosol lacquer to fill inthe low areas - don't try to flood them, just one or two passes, let it all dry, the resand to level it out.

Patience and a steady hand can restore the top.
