Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows of a good pattern or good instructions to make roman shades. I also want to do them in something that looks soft and warm (suede?) in a lighter brown or tan. If anyone has a brilliant fabric idea, I'd be grateful! Thanks!

Hi, I make roman shades. The simpliest way to make them would be to measure your window, inside measurement or outside, add about 4" to the width and then measure the length, adding about 12". Cut a liner fabric, 1" - 1 1/2" smaller than the width of your fabric. Sew the two fabrics together down the sides, then turn. Press out seams. I serge the bottom and top of the fabric. TUrn under about 1 inch hem at the bottom, then with a water maker, make markings about 6" apart in length. This will be where you will sew the small rings on through both fabrics. I always put rings on each side, down the middle, then depending on the width between edge and middle will determine how many more rows are needed. Once rings are sewn on, cut a board 1" smaller than the width of the window. Mount the curtain to the board with stapler gun. Attach screw eyes to the board above each row of rings. Startiang at the bottom of curtain, left to right run nylon cord through each ring, across the top, and repeat with each row of strings. Attach to window with elbow brackets. Insert a flat piece of wood in hem at bottom for weight.

dada gave pretty good instructions...you can also find a pattern in any home decorating pattern book.eg. wal-mart.......one thing to remember, the little plastic rings do not hold up well in dry cleaning..the may melt even if wrapped. so if you are not using a washable material place brass rather then plastic
