I have a 50 year old house with a walk-in basement. 25% of basement is dirt and the rest pour concrete. The basement is usually dry but does have a mild smell. I want to insulate with a wall and insulation the part that has concrete. The dirt part does have two vents. Will this cause any problems and how should I insulate the wall? ALso, on the ceiling in the basement, which side of the insulation goes up... paper side or other? Thanks.

The paper side of the insulation always faces the heated space.
