George,

I read one of your posts that said to use Naptha to clean antique furniture. I used it with a plastic scrubbie sponge and it doesn't seem to be working well. It's not getting anything off, when I wipe it after with a paper towel there's nothing on it, when I use a baby wipe it pulls off tons of dirt. Am I doing something wrong or is there something else I should be using?

Thanks,
Stacey

Stacey:

I normally use steel wool - but I'm going to have to try those baby wipes! Sounds a lot simpler and easier!

Don't those baby wipes contain alcohol? If that is the case, and the item being cleaned has a shellac finish on it, then what really is happening is that the alcohol is softening and removing the finish. This may not be desirable!!
