Hello.
I live in Wisconsin and have a bueatiful clump of Rhubarb growing next to the shed, how do I know when it is ready to cut, and how do I save it for someone who might want it, if I cant find someone right when I cut it, and is it just as simple as cutting the stalk down to ground and looping the leaves off??
Thank you

Hi MTGets,
Rhubarb is really ready anytime. Do get to it before it goes to seed though. For storage, remove the leaves, and you can store it right in the fridge as you would celery.

"I like to pick the rhubarb best when the stalks are completely grown, with a deep red color and a medium size leaf. Pull the stalks directly from ground level or cut them at ground level with a sharp knife. All the stalks may be harvested at once, or as they mature over a 6 to 8 week period from the time they start to spike. Rinse thoroughly under running water and trim off the leaf and root end. Make sure there is no leaf remaining at all on the rhubarb stalk since the leaves are poisonous. Rhubarb stalks can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 1 week at this point before use." Bergman, J.
