My gas grill will be going on my raised wood deck. Do any of you have good ideas on what materials you used to make a safe place to put the grill? Or design ideas?

Thanks

I built a platform on the edge of the deck to put two concrete patio stones (40 lbs, but $10 each at your local supplier) down for a base to stand the BBQ on. The concrete will not be damaged by any grease dripping from the BBQ or other hazzards. Just make sure to measure how thick you patio stones are, compared to your decking, and adjust the joists accordingly.

MarySue,
A standard(wheeled) gas grill, three and a half ft. or so from the deck surface is not an unsafe practice. But, as mentioned earlier, grease drippings can be a cleaning problem when it comes time to clean and stain the deck.

About the only problem I've noticed over the years is that rental beach property do not allow grills on decks. It's the charcoal types that can be the problem with wood decks.

MarySue,
I just encountered the same issue with my new deck - one simple solution (I'm currently using) is to buy a grill mat of some sort- the one I bought is a hard plastic rectangle that you put on the deck and put the grill on top - works great - doesn't allow anything to drip on the deck and because it is plastic it is easy to clean and won't discolor the deck boards.

Just an idea

Hmmm. I just sat my gas grill on the deck - never gave it a second thought. Haven't been any problems so far...
