Hi. Hope you can help me with this one?

I have an unvarnished oak table which I have just purchased. I cleaned it with white spirit but before I could apply a matt varnish, a jar of vinaigrette dressing was left on it overnight, leaving a oily ring stain. The dressing is a mixture of oil and a dark vinegar so the stain is dark brown. Normal detergent won't remove it as it seems to have seeped into the wood.

Are there any alternatives to sanding?
