Hello,
I am helping a friend make a Lionel train layout. I was wondering if any of you new what type of plants, bushes trees, etc. would be good for the scale.(basically just miniatures.)
Thanks

Hello ringoryan8
We used to use Yarrow and the seed heads from Curled Dock and Teasel for model building in school, but you'll have to wait until the fall to collect them (if they grow in your area)

Check with local nursuries and your local Dept. of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Agent for a list of dwarf trees and shrubs that do well in your area. There are dwarf fruit trees and dwarf conifers for tiny landscapes. There are also dwarf flowering species like the dwarf Iris. The Monrovia Garden Club might also be a good source of information. The California Horticultural Society in San Francisco should also be a wonderful source.
You might want to contact the following Docent at the Horticultural Society. She conducted a tour of dwarf varieties in February 2001:
