I have a brick veneer home, about 1800 sq. ft., one story. In a home inspection, the inspector said that "The vertical expansion joint (between the brick) should be resealed." It appears as though a black rubbery substance is there now. I can't find anything at my local hardware chain to do this with. What is this and do I need to hire someone? Do I need to dig out the old stuff that is there now?
This is very pressing, I need this done in the next week before we close on the sale of our house!!!

After you take out the old caulk from the CJ buy some backer-rod to stuff in the joint before recaulking. Keep it recessed about 3/8 to 1/2 in. then caulk over it. Caulking will fail on a 2 point contact.
