I want to cover my brick fireplace- brick goes up to the ceiling. Is it best to cover it with sheetrock or spread the cement stuff al over it to cover it.? I want it all white and I want to put a new mantle and tile around the surround. thanks!

Painting the brick white would make for an easier project. Applying stucco is an option.

Don't paint the brick. Make your change reversible. Go to any old house forum and search for the number of posts complaining about painted brick fireplaces.
