I have acquired a cedar chest in very good condition--no gouges or broken pieces--all hinges are intact. The top and sides have been scratched and the front looks like parquet. It is veneered and I would like information on how to go about refinishing the top and sides without damaging the wood. It has a unique feature of a tray the length of the chest that is covered in green felt.
Is it possible to use a regular varnish stripper and then a matte finish clear varnish to retain the current color tone?
