I have broken a couple of pieces in the cermic tile on the "platform" base (not sure of the terminology) on my fireplace. I can fit the pieces into place but there is one small area that I really do not have a piece for. Very small. I dropped a bottle on the edge of it when moving a wine rack. Well the wine bottle did not break but the tile did. There is evidence that this tile was cracked previously. The problem: I am renting and I don't want to be charged for replacing the whole fireplace. I asked one of the helpers if he knew if there were any spare tiles for the place and he said no. If I report it I am sure it will cost me a fortune. What advice do you have for me gluing the pieces back and for filling the small space. the space is about 1 inch by 1/4". I thpight I could repair it myself. It is near the edge. What do you suggest?

My first suggestion would be to measure the size of the tiles and take one of the broken pieces for comparison to a good tile specialty store to see if you can come up with replacment tiles. Trying to repair what you have so as to be not niticeable will be very hard.
By the way, how much of a security deposit is involved. The landlord can't charge you any more than that anyway.
