WE HAVE AN 80 YEAR OLD HOUSE WITH A JORDAN POUR (I THINK THAT'S WHAT IT IS CALLED) BASEMENT. FOR THE LAST THREE WEEKS WE HAVE HAD TONS OF RAIN AND IT HAS APPEARED TO SEEP IN SOME CRACKS IN THE FOUNDATION AND MADE THE DIRT IN THE CRAWL SPACE WET AND HEAVY. WE JUST NOTICED YESTERDAY THAT THE RETAINING WALL HAS NOW MOVED AND IS STARTING TO BULGE AS IF IT MIGHT FALL. WHAT SHOULD WE DO? MY HUSBAND AND HIS FATHER HAVE BEEN IN CONSTRUCTION ALL THEIR LIVES SO WE INTEND TO DO THIS OURSELVES. ANY ADVICE?

"A bowed retaining wall probably can't be fixed. It will almost surely have to be rebuilt. Depending on the height, you may need a permit from the County to do so. To prevent the bowing from recurring, you may need to use special backfill behind the wall and install a drainage system as described in the section on foundation walls."
