Is the piano one of the older uprights or a grand - baby or otherwise?

George,

Thank you for looking at my request. The piano is a very heavy old upright grand piano, .

lfn,

As a piano tuner, who also installs hardwood flooring (and cabinet maker), the best way to do it is to roll it right in front of where is going to end up. You have to cover the floor with somthing, in order to avoid scratching it. Canvas drop cloths work great, as does corrugated cardboard - if you can get your hands on enough of it.

I recommend placing the piano on a moving dolly, as opposed to using the casters on the piano. The old casters will not roll smoothly, and cause nothing but problems.

Once the piano in that area, it's best to have some helpers that can lift the weight of the piano while you slide the moving dolly out from underneath it.

Place the piano's casters on either rubber or felt protectors.

It's not a fun job, so make sure you're definite about where you want it to go, so you don't have to move it again.
