I have a very good quality hardwood desk. It was "antiqued" back in the 1970's with a latex base paint system to reproduce a psuedo wood finish. I believe the underlying wood is walnut.

The desk is not complicated, most of it being flat surfaces. What type of striper or removal technique might work best for such a project.? The goal is to refinish the original wood.

Hy will be along shortly to condemn me for suggesting a product containing methelyne chloride, but I have two choices to ffer from personal experience.

Kwik Paint and Varnish remover, which is a liquid, and Strypeeze, which is a semi-paste. Both run about $18 a gallon, and a gallon will be more than enough for the job.

Read the labels, follow directions. The manufacturers want you to be succesful and use their product again.

Mike predicted it and here I am. Your job can easily be done using either PEEL AWAY 6 or 7. Both will do the removal in one application keeping the natural color of the wood and they do NOT contain methylene chloride. Visit the web site at www.dumondchemicals.com for more info
