Hello,

Home construction is moving along and we're getting close to insulation time. Most all of the joists spaces between floors will be insulated for sound control with hardwood floors and theater areas above and beneath. The question is, with most everything being 16" on center with doubled joists, is it typical to just trim the bats to fit, or special order? I'll have a rough 3000 sq ft to do.

Thanks!

Hello!

Most roll and batt insulations (see Owens-Corning link I provided in post below) is 15'' or 23''......for that purpose of fitting in between joists or double wall joists.

The actual space in between your 16'' O.C. is 13-14.5'' (or about) so the 15'' is fine.
No trimming needed.
You can "squish" it in and it will fit just fine. The depth of your 2x4/2x6 walls will accomodate it great.

Have a good 'n! :)
