I have metal French Doors leading out of the basement and family room. My problem is that our dog has scratched the paint from the surface numerous times. Any suggestions of a material that I could cover the area (below door knob to bottom) that will still look attractive?
We have thought of having them wrapped in vinyl, using a pared down piece of kick plate, and covering the area with a strip of plexiglass. We haven't tried any of these and are looking for an attractive solution, short of getting rid of the dog.

Any of those will work. He will probably still be able to scratch the vinyl. I would stay with something harder like the plexiglass or kickplate. We protect a lot of painted surfaces where I work with the plexi screwed to the wall with countersunk screws.
