i am putting in a two riser concrete step in the front of my house. the steps will butt up against the house. i already am going to put an expansion joint between the steps and the house. the question is, do i need to set footings under the steps if they are solid, through and through? or can i just put some crushed stone underneath about 4 inches below grade?
