My Sony KV27S25 Trinitron suddenly has no picture. The sound is fine. The STANDBY/STEREO light blinks. I don't see any glow from the back. Help!!!:eek:

marclebeau, Remove the back cover, check the crt board(video board) on the neck of the crt (picture tube) for any cracked solder joints on that board (The solder joints i'm concerned with are for the crt socket). If you find any gentle remove the board from the neck of the picture tube, take your solderwick (or de-soldering iron) and remove the old solder and replace with fresh solder. Re-install board (making sure you line the pins up properly), plug in the set, turn it on and see if theirs a picture.

I had exactly the same problem with my 32' XBR.
I bought mine september of 2000, and the picture just all of the sudden went out yesterday (june 1st). were you able to fix your tv? anybody else had this problem and was able to find out what was wrong with it.

There are pro's and con's on the Sony units. Fact is, they make an excellent set. However, most failures in a Sony occur in the first 60-90 days. After that, the percentage drops rapidly.
As FreddyG indicated, the neck-board on the picture tube is one possibility for a "no picture" situation. Look for filaments in the tube. In this case, you should have high voltage and hear the familiar "crackle" as the voltage builds on the picture tube.
Most common failure, though, would be in the high voltage section and I would recommend you start at the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor). If you do not hear the familiar "crackle" of the voltage building up, that's a good indication. A good repair FAQ can be found at:

I don't hear any crackle so I started poking around on the board. I think I may be over my head here, so I'm going to rely on a professional to solve my woes. Nonetheless, thanks for the help.
