I presently have a white brick (4” X 4” X 16”) skirting, 6 tiers high, around my manufactured home. It is breaking up. All together we are talking about 105 linear feet of skirting (in three segments, two of which involve corners) that has to be replaced. I have learned that when it was installed, the footer (nominally 8” wide X 4” thick and very haphazard and irregular) was installed on fill dirt, with fill dirt and sod subsequently added to bring the surrounding yard up to the level of the top of the footer (under the home untouched). It began to settle and break up when sufficient rain came to cause the soil to settle and compact. I need to replace the whole smear.

I need some guidelines from some experts on size and placement of the footer. The home is in West Central Florida where the soil is fairly sandy, but it is far enough inland that has a good bit more loam in it than the coastal areas. Frost/freeze lines are not a problem, of course.

Experts, your guidance would be greatly appreciated. Or point me to some reference that I can read and follow here.

Thanks,
