We are laying tile in our kitchen and want to know if it is best to lay it under the cabinets or around them.

Hi
If the cabinets are in already, then cut around them. If not tile just past the kick plate, and you'll end up with a nice clean finish against the cabinets. If you cut around the cabinets, you'll have a grout joint all around them. Sometimes the existing cabinets will have removable kick plates...if you can take them off and then tile, it will save you a lot of cutting.
