I am finising my basement. I will be dry walling the ceiling and do a "popcorn spray tecture" on it. I have been told that placing insulation between alternate joist intervals, the sound barrier is as good as placing it between all joists. Is this true? This sounds appealing to me, as I'll have a fireplace in the basement, that could let heat rise to the floor above it, as apposed to when I completely insulate it. Any recommendations?
