I am installing a backsplash in my kitchen. The new tiles are 6" square that we are going to place on diagonal. On diagonal they are 8.125". The height of my area is 17" and I am goin to use 1/8" grout spacers. The problem is it leaves 1/2" at the top. The area at the top is hidden by the cabinets, thus no one can see it unless they bend over and look. My question is can I grout this 1/2" area then add a 1/4 wooden molding to hide most of the grout? Will 1/2" grout stay firm and not fall apart on me?

if they are 6 inch squares I think diagonal would be 8.49. my geometry may be rusty but 6 squared plus 6 squared is 72 and the square root of 72 is 8.49 which is the diagonal side? anyway. why not put molding up first and grout your remainng 1/4 area (prob need sanded grout for this size) and then put molding over the molding for finished look? double check your figures though because you may not have the right calculations

Hi
IF you're going to cover the joint anyway, with molding, then why worry about the grout.? Once it's covered, you'll never see it again.:) you can grout it..or leave it empty...it won't really matter if you cover it.
