I am doing a bath remodel. Here's what I have. 2x8 joists spaced 16" on center. There is currently 1" ( 2 x 1/2 ") of exterior grade plywood on top of this.
Can I install my wonderboard ( 1/2 " ?? ) or should I install another layer of plywood before the DUROCK goes down.
Also, is there some sort of moisture barrier that should go on prior to installing the DUROCK to prevent damage to the plywood flooring later ?
Thanks

not sure how big your span is but 2x10 is normally the min. 1 inch ply is fine and I don't think you need a moisture barrier on the floor, what will durock do to plywood?

The span is 11'. The house was built about 30 years ago and I don't know why they did not use 2 x 10 's.
Thanks

Depending on the grade and species of the joists, 11' is pushing the limit of 2x8's. Do you have access to the underside such that you could add to the joists? I had a similar condition a number of years ago on a friends house where we nailed and glued 2x6's to existing 2x8's (couldn't get 2x8's in place). Stiffened the floor enough; no cracks in their floor after 3+ years.
