Help! My thermostat will turn on the air conditioner, but the furnace will not kick on at all.

is the pilot lit if it has one, how old, make, etc. try jumping r and y terminals at tstat, what happens?

You're right on. Relit the pilot last night and works fine. However, now I have to turn the thermostat off, then on, for it to fire up. What gives now?
