Hello...My furnace is not turning on. When I turn the thermostat and go into the basement, I see the pilot is still lit, and I can hear a click, click sound that shows it is attempting to turn on, but nothing happens.

What are the possible reasons? and can I fix it myself?

is gas turned on?, if the gas is on, and a click is present, either it is opening and there is no gas, or it's not opening and their is gas. sounds like a possible bad gas valve.
