How much wattage does a typical split airconditioning system (approx. 3 tons) consume? I am buying a new house and was wondering if the 100 amps service would be sufficient for all our needs.

P=IE You will need a volt/amp meter...Take an amp reading with unit running.Don't forget amp reading on blower unit also.Check voltage to unit.Multiply amps x volts. This will convert usage to watts.Divide by 1k and this will give you KW...Find out what your utility company charges per KW,this will let you know how much unit will cost you to run for 1 hour.Your 100 amp service should be enough...however only you and/or the builder knows what electrical loads the house will incorporate.PDF
