Why does air handler run continuously?--Thermostat has been replaced & looking at wiring diagram, I notice it uses a fan capacitor & a fan delay relay and wonder if one of these could be sticking. Unit is a TRANE air handler. Only a problem when using air conditioner, handler will turn off when using heat pump. Only way to shut off is to switch off breaker.

Are you sure the outside unit is running? You could be only running your back-up electric heat and fan for a/c never shuts off because stat never gets satisfied because the outside unit isn`t running. If the outside unit is running, make sure the compressor also is running. Touch the big copper line and feel if its hot when heating and cold when cooling. Let us know what you find.

To Servicegrunt,
Thanks for your reply.I will try to describe this as best as possible as I am in the service industry, just not AC.
Heat pump worked fine all winter with the exception of the breaker that goes to the aux. heater failing.60 amp. I checked and repaired myself.Re checked amp draw when finished and it was fine.
Warm weather came and switched over to the cool side and AC is working fine, but we noticed the "fan" or air handeler is still running.outside unit."compressor" is off. I can flip the heat pump breaker off and back on and the air handeler remains off until started again by the lowering of the thermostat. It appears to me like a relay is sticking.Found a fan delay relay shown in schematic, but did not want to purchase or replace without a professional opinion.
Hope this helps.
Thanks in advanced,

Not to familiar with Trane units but you definately have a relay sticking. Could be the relay you mentioned or a cooling relay that brings on your high speed fan tap for a/c. If your handy with a meter, you can check to see which relay is sticking by following the wiring diagram and checking the terminals. This can be kinda rough going though unless your an experienced hvac tech. A tech could find your problem quickly and the part shouldn`t be very expensive.
