After doing a search of this site and of the 'net as a whole, I cannot seem to find any plans (pay or free) for a free standing coat rack. You know the kind of which I speak - tall & thin with a base and a 'tree' at the top for hanging your coats.

All the plans I found were for wall mounted coat racks. (OK, I did find one rack you could make out of an old shovel or something silly like that, but I want to make one 'from scratch'.)

Here are the sites I searched (in no particular order):

a1woodplans
u-bild
plansnow
NYW
plans.the3house
rockler
billycwoodwright
diynet
hgtv
woodstore.woodmall
meiselwoodhobby
scrollsaw
woodcraftplans

And various and sundry others I didn't write down after doing a search on yahoo.

Any direction pointing would be appreciated. Any plans you're willing to share or sell would as well.

Hi,
Here's a place where you'll find something........
www.goggle.com
in the search box type in "coat tree plans"
you'll get a bunch of stuff there. Get a pencil and paper and about an hours time and search out the topics that say coat tree. Get the measurements from what they list and draw pictures of those that interest you. From there doityourself the way you want and from whatever you want.
good luck

Thanks Mr. Bridley.

I never thought to call it a coat 'tree' (even though I used that description in my post). My search was for a coat 'rack'. No wonder. :P

I will do the search today as soon as I have the available time.

Thanks again.

WOOD Magazine did an article on a contemporary looking one.

Dec 1985, Issue 8.

Curious how I found that article ?
