I'm planning on remodeling my bathroom. Currently, the 8.5' foot wall is tiled from the floor for approximately 6.5' feet. I'm replacing the tile but would only like to retile 4.5' of the wall. However, I'm afraid that I won't be able to paint over the area that was previously tiled due to glue and grout. Can I sand the wall to make it smooth or will I need to rip the drywall out and replace it first.
If anyone has knowledge/experience with this, please advise.
Thanks

I doubt you will be able to get the tile off the wall without damaging the drywall underneath. Usually you just take out the whole wall with the tile and then replace the drywall. So you will starting out with new drywall. Actually you want to use cement board under the tile, anyway.
