I have read alot recently that most carpet contains chemicals that are toxic to some people and, at the very least, bothersome to people with allergies...even wool carpet due to the anti-moth chemicals that are added. Anybody heard of this?

No, nothing like that. What's your source for the info, and is it reliable?

The only thing I have read heard or been instructed about is latex off gassing. People that are allergic to latex, can have a reaction.

If you look up "toxic carpet" on the internet, there are scads of sites that discuss toxic carpet including a BBC site from the UK, CNN and a really great one at http://www.holisticmed.com/carpet/tc1.txt. Also I saw a show on 60 minutes and 20/20 on separate occasions that discussed this subject. I suppose those are pretty good sources. I understand that Anderson Labs and the EPA both did studies on new carpet with mice and both found neurological damage and death in the mice. I shudder to think about the little babies crawling around on new carpet and getting slowly poisioned-isn't that what every new parent thinks is the most safe and comfortable flooring for their little ones? After what I read, doesn't seem so.

Another good source of info:

"Carpet and Indoor Air: What You Should Know,"
authored by four state attorneys general, June 1993,
available free from:
New York State Attorney General

Looks like there has been a "coverup" going on for a while (whoops, pun intended). :D

Things that make you go hmmm?

I did see the mice tests about 12 years ago. They also did the same tests with fresh air and the mice experienced the same conditions. They went on to say it was because the mice were forced to stay in that one position for 2 months.

SBT Latex does off gas. That is why you are suppose to ventalate during and after installation.
