I have been asked to build a base for an American Civil War Cannon & would be grateful for anyone with knowledge of websites that can be of help to me.

Hi,
Is this to be a base for a model or a real or replicate cannon.
Here is a place that most likely has some info
www.google.com
in the search box type in civil war cannon, and you should get some type of info.
good luck,
Trent

Is it a Civil War Navy cannon or Army cannon?
Navy cannons, of course, had the 4 small-wheel ship gun carriage base, and Army cannons had the 2-wagon wheel carriages for authenticity.
If it's for a fixed-base display cannon, however, it can be on a square base with the two half-moon cannon mounts at the top (which is probably what they want).
There were so many different types and sizes of cannons in the Civil War that it will have to be custom-made just for that cannon in any case.
You should have little trouble finding an example or info. If you can't find info readily anywhere else, go on my website below and click on the link to our local Civil War "Port O' Plymouth"' museum and email Harry Thompson there. He's a collector and expert on Civil War guns, etc., and may be able to help you.
Good luck!
