I have 27 years golden door handles on my front doors. They are made by Dexter. I tried to find handles to go on the two doors. I cannot find a dummy handle for the second door. So I am planning to paint the old handles so they look like new. Is there a best way to paint them to make them look like new and is it possible to get a dummy handle for the second without a lot of expense? Any help will be appreciated.

The 'expense' of another set of entry hardware is worth it. Painting brass, as I assume that is what you have, can be tricky, and may not last, therefore, another coat and your labor. Install a new set.
