I am painting new prehung six panel interior solid doors. They came primed and in very nice condition. I am painting them the same as the molding with a semigloss paint from Behr.

Can someone help me in obtaining the best surface with the fewest paint lines and "streaks"? I want them to be smooth as possible but be durable and easy to wash with clean sponge in the future. We have about 10 doors to do.

Thanks all. Peace: e3 - spamman

The best 'streak-free' paint will be an oil (alkyd). Sheen is up to you, but I prefer Satin Impervo from Benjamin Moore. It flows very smoothly and the sheen is very nice. Use a quality brush and roller (lint free or high density foam), nothing cheap. Bristle for oil, polyester for latex, nylon is too coarse for fine detail. Thin coats are always better than thick. A day between coats (or longer). Sand lightly and tack rag between coats. Paint horizontal if possible, then hang the doors. Brush the recesses and detail, then roll the panels. Two coats is best but you'll likely only need brush once, roll twice. If your paint is latex, more finesse is required. Use a foam roller even, thin coats.

KeithP: Thanks for the help buddy. We painted just about all 12 doors in the house and they look real nice. I like the 6-panel solid doors much better than the hollow slabs. We we went to an alkyd paint upstairs it makes it much easier. Less coats and the paint flows nicely. This house sucked up a TON of paint and TONS of time too. We are rounding the corner, cabinets are in, tile flooring on Monday and all carpeting next week. Thanks again for your help. Peace: e3 - spamman
