Hi,
What I would look for would be a well known brand that you can readily get parts and accessories for. Variable speed, especially if you are going to run some big bits. Plunge base,
but my main concern is to get one that I feel comfortable with,
( feels good in my hands ) Also look in some magazines for
comparison ratings and tests.
good luck,
Trent

wheats49,
Check out the Porter Cable combo router. I forget the model number. It comes with both a fixed base and a plunge base,
this way you can mount the fixed base in a table and still have the plunge base for portable action.
