I painted our walls with "Dutch Boy Kitchen and Bathroom" paint, which has a glossy finish. When I dampened the prepasted border and tried to hang it, the border wouldn't stick to the wall. What should I do?

You sadly found out why we paperhangers, like painters, always sing the praises of priming. The other part of your problem is that pre-pasted borders use the same adhesive as pre-pasted wallpaper. That is find for lightweight paper, but the wallpaper manufacturers don't know that their borders weigh more per square inch. The paste that is applied to them is, as you would imagine, the cheapest, wateriest stuff they can buy.

The optimal solution is to prime the area where your border will be. (Say from the ceiling line to 1/2 inch or closer than the border width) Then use a border adhesive on the border. You can buy this at home improvement stores very inexpensively. You might be able to get away with the border adhesive alone, but the person who ultimately has to remove that border will not be happy camper if you don't prime under it. They may end up yanking off the paint with the old border!! Best of luck!
