I need to install some safety grabs bars in a shower stall for
someone thats coming home from the hospital. The shower
stall is totally tiled to the ceiling. It's about 3 foot sgaure. I'd
like to put up a 18" long grab bar on the interior wall. How do
I find the stud or does the bar need to be on a blocked 2/10?
They include toggle bolts in the kit. Can I just use those?
It seems like there must be lathe and plaster behind the tiles.
It's an older home built in the fifty's.
Any hints on this matter.

For reasons of saftey, it is CRITICAL that the grab bars be securely anchored into solid wood blocking. If you have an 18 inch grab bar, it will not land on both studs if they are 16 inches on center. Do Not use the toggle bolts. ADA code requires that the grab bar be able to support a 200 pound down force. Please do this the right way, or your loved one may end up back in the hospital.
