What type of pressure treated wood would be best for a back yard "kids castle"? I hear some of the woods bleed chemicals and are toxic. do i avoid the cca and just go with cddc and acq? What do they have at Home Depot? It's gonna be 2x4's and 3/4 plywood on treated 4x4 posts five ft. above ground. maybe i should just get treated posts and plain wood elsewhere and just paint all the untreated. whats the best way to go?

I wouldn't use cca for a kids playset. ACQ is supposed to be safe, but don't take my word for it, do your due dilligence and find out everything you can, your kids deserve it. The Home Depot's near my house don't sell ACQ, but I was able to get it from a REAL lumber yard. Nothing against Home Depot, but their wood leaves something to be desired.

Untreated "regular" wood and then painted? Bad idea, it won't last and the paint will chip and peel in the weather/kids abuse, then you'll be looking to build a bonfire!

Thanks for the info guys, I've decided to compromise with light sprayings of copper napthenate preservative at joinings before assembly and seal the whole thing over with oil based kilz primer followed by a coat of enamel. It's a structure that's up in the sun and wind so, it ought to last a good long time.
