I have seen a lot posted on this board about Simington vinyl windows. I have not been able to find any information about a brand called "Simington," however, I have found a website for a brand called "Simonton." Could it possibly be that the posters here are referring to "Simonton?" Also, does anyone have any experience with Simonton? I am looking to replace about 18 double-hung windows in my 1929 colonial in the northeast, and I bristle at the thought of spending what it would cost for wood windows. Thanks for any and all advice.

Yes...it is Simonton......I'm one of the ones guilty of phonetic spelling :) ....They make an excellent replacement window.

I like the Reflections 5100 series personally.....mechanical frame and welded sash.

Okay, now that we got that cleared up . . . between Simonton and CertainTeed -- which one is better? Also, when the manufacturers say 3/4" glass or 7/8" glass, does that refer to the space between the two pieces of glass? I assume, more space between glass provides more inulation, correct?

Thanks.

Have used Certainteed in the past, but seems like they were a little cheaper window.....probably not a great deal of difference.....true be know, there isn't a GREAT deal of difference in any of the vinyl replacements on the market....

As to 3/4 or 7/8 glass spacing.....again....I doubt you could tell any difference insulation wise......the difference REALLY is the 7/8 window maker is saving a little on the sash extrustion vinyl by making it thinner :) ....probably nothing to do with your benefit.

That's my 2 cents worth....
