Hi. Is there a proper way to tie an addition into an existing wall of a house? I'm putting up my bathroom addition in a corner of my house. Each new wall will butt into the existing wall between two joists. Can I nail "spanners" between the joists, maybe every 24 inches or so, and nail the new wall into those? Does that make sense? Thanks in advance for the help.

the way you describe will be perfectly acceptable. The main consideration is so that you would have something to attache the drywall to in the corner. How are you going to attache it to the ceiling. If you have some kind of joist in line with the wall, that's great. If not, just do the same on the ceiling to fasten the top plate.
