I am building a closet in my basement with a 6' wide bi-fold door opening.

Since I will be spanning a wide distance I was considering whether I should double up on the 2x4 header to provide additional strength. Would it make sense to glue 2 2x4's together with a 1/2 inch OSB sandwiched between, then lay the header on edge across the spanse? I would then nail short studs between the header and the top plate attached to the floor joist. Or should I lay the 2x4 flat across the spanse?

Thank you in advance for your advise.

Always stand on edge. Good luck!
